Affordable housing in the Northland

What does — or should — affordable housing look like? That's the question One KC Voice hopes Northland residents will be able to answer at a series of community events that will determine the Northland community's needs for future workforce housing. All current and prospective Northland citizens are invited to attend. Participants will be asked to decide, based on pictures of several housing types, how appropriate various options are for their neighborhood. The events will be held in Parkville (Aug. 20), Kansas City north (Aug. 21), and Liberty (Sept. 3). You can RSVP for an event online. The information from the three events will be compiled into a report that will be given to Northland Neighborhoods, Inc., and the Northland Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. To learn more about this project, visit the project page or call 816/701-8269.

Soil Test KitTest your soil before fertilizing

Soil testing is the process of analyzing the nutrients present in a soil sample to determine the type and amount of fertilizer needed. When lawn chemicals are incorrectly applied, excessive nutrients can run off into area streams and rivers, threatening our ecosystem and posing severe health risks for humans, pets, wildlife and aquatic life. Periodic soil testing helps homeowners maintain a healthy lawn or garden while saving money on fertilizer and protecting regional water quality. Learn more…
